Studies on lactoferrin and anemia

Lactoferrin efficacy versus ferrous sulfate in curing iron disorders in pregnant and non-pregnant women.

This study demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of lactoferrin in pregnant women suffering from iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia. The study involved 189 non-pregnant women and 75 pregnant women.

In the lactoferrin group, statistically significant increases in hemoglobin and ferritin levels were observed. However, in the ferrous sulfate group, statistically significant increases were not observed.

Efficacy of Lactoferrin Oral Administration in the Treatment of Anemia and Anemia of Inflammation in Pregnant and Non-pregnant Women: An Interventional Study.

The study administered 100mg of lactoferrin orally twice a day to a total of 198 women, including pregnant and non-pregnant individuals. It reported that lactoferrin (LF) reduced IL-6 levels and increased serum total iron, red blood cell count, and serum ferritin.

Safety and efficacy of lactoferrin versus ferrous sulphate in curing iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia in hereditary thrombophilia pregnant women: an interventional study.

In a study involving 295 pregnant women who were administered 100mg of lactoferrin orally twice a day, it was reported that serum IL-6 significantly decreased in women receiving lactoferrin treatment. Lactoferrin was also noted not to have any adverse effects. In contrast, 16.5% of women receiving ferrous sulfate treatment reported experiencing side effects.
